2019 in a Blanik L-23 at the North
Plains Gliderport. Bill Brick-
ey (R) assisted with the cooling
off. Scott also lost the back of his shirt.

cessfully flew his first solo at Fault
Line Flyers Gliderport on June 8,
2019. Bobby is a Southwest Airlines
Pilot.

MIDLOTHIAN, TX – On June
1, 2019, Samuel Elieson (L), a Youth
Member with Texas Soaring Associa-
tion, soloed a club ASK 21 for the first
time. He is being congratulated by
his tow pilot, who happens to be his
proud grandfather. Samuel’s goal is to
complete training for Private Pilot rat-
ing by the end of summer.
MIDLOTHIAN, TX – On May
30, 2019, Anthony Schmidt (L) so-
loed an ASK 21 while his father, Tony
(R), recorded the event. The proud fa-
ther is an American Airline Captain
and Anthony is now a third genera-
tion pilot. After Anthony’s flight Tony
experienced his first glider flight. This
could be a father/son partnership!
Anthony is a student at Midlothian
Heritage High School and a member
of the wrestling team.
REFUGIO, TX – Diana Lauren
gave up the back of her T-shirt on
May 5, 2019 at Rooke Field. Three
good pattern tows in The Refugio
Soaring Circle 2-33 after Mike Cava-
naugh, CFI-G, endorsed her for solo
flight privileges. A little windy and no
buzzards to show her the way, Diana
was “One with the Pelican!” Mark
Garrettson was the tow pilot.
WINDSOR, VA – On May 25,
2019, Tidewater Soaring Society
welcomed its 2019 scholarship stu-
dents. They are: Rafael Jacob “RJ”
Wartowsky, 16, Toni Begovic, 14, and
Abdalla Elrahhal, 14.
