Toyota Highlander
The all-new, fourth-generation Highlander looks like an extension of
the current model, although there are evolutionary improvements
throughout. It measures about 2.4 inches longer than the 2019, add-
ing space to the cargo area. The Highlander offers two powertrains,
a conventional 295-hp V6 and a 240-hp hybrid four-cylinder. The
hybrid powertrain is said to deliver an EPA-estimated 34 mpg com-
bined. Toyota has stepped up its infotainment game; all Highlanders
come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite comes standard with forward collision
warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection,
adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist,
automatic high beams, and the ability to read road signs.

Toyota Corolla
Bot the hybrid and conventional versions of the redesigned
Corolla sedan are fuel efficient. We got 48 mpg overall with the
hybrid and 33 mpg overall with the regular Corolla sedan. But the
new styling compromised rear seat room and ease of access due to
the lower stance and curvy body. The base 1.8-liter engine provides
leisurely acceleration and the continuously variable transmission
tends to amplify engine noise. A more powerful 169-hp, 2.0-liter four-
cylinder comes on the higher trim lines and on the hatchback ver-
sion. We liked the comfortable ride and improved handling agility.
Controls are easy to use and Apple CarPlay compatibility is standard.
Standard auto emergency braking is a plus but blind spot warning is
an option except on the hybrid where it’s not available at all.
