I wouldn’t go past Stage 2 and that I would
be happy with it... however, like anything,
you get used to the power and I felt I wanted
more. It also didn’t help that I had Scott on
my shoulder egging me on!”
And so, as was written in the stars and
always bound to happen, John started
looking at how to level-up to Stage 3. He’d
had such good experiences with SCC that
he decided to go back there once again,
knowing that they’d be able to offer the right
advice and get the car singing beautifully
to his own tune. The next big step was to
add in the Revo/Turbo Technics S242 hybrid
turbo, and of course the Revo Stage 3 map.
While he was there, John and the SCC team
highlighted a few other useful areas to
upgrade, so the job sheet found itself also
populated by a set of SCC’s own grooved
brake discs, along with Ferodo pads and
Goodridge braided lines; the stock brakes
are great, but it makes sense to give them a
helping hand when you’re chucking all of this
extra power at them.
With this setup, John was very satisfied
indeed with the ST’s engine and chassis, and
for the following few months he enjoyed
tearing about in what was the best possible
version of what a streetable Mk7 could be
- or so he thought at the time. As we well
know by this point, the spectre of relentless
upgrading is always lurking in the shadows...
but for now, with the addition of a gloss
black wrap for the roof and mirrors and a
TRC front splitter, John was very satisfied
with his lot.
Oh, but you’ll never guess what happened
next... that’s right, he wanted more power.

“The Revo Stage 3 was great,” he says.
“However, being firmly addicted now, I just
wanted more. The car had been dyno’d at
293bhp at this point, and this was when I
got talking to Justin from NCG Performance
near Banbury. He told me to give the MAXD
Out mapping a go, and that the car could be
pushed even further on the S242 turbo. So I
headed down to NCG, and Justin sorted
