Paintworks, interior was done by Raj @ Autoflock Motorsport

Spotted on the Welsh Ford stand,
Mark’s bright red XR3i was
gleaming in the afternoon sun.
Having owned this example for 11
years, he’s worked hard to create
his ultimate version of the Mk3
Escort. Starting with the engine,
he’s slotted in a rebuilt Series One

MARK BAYS ESCORT XR3i

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

RST lump that’s running 195bhp. The
exterior was painted four years ago
and still looks stunning, especially
with the plastics done in gloss black.
A set of Cossie brakes and Koni
dampers with Spax springs keep the
handling tight, while the hard to find
16in Raceline RL7s look like they were

made for the car. Inside there’s a
full complement of flocking and
seats trimmed in BMW nappa
leather. Mark says, “There’s not
much left to do, a new Kent cam
going in over the winter time.
Would like to see a bit more power,
maybe end up EFI at some point.”

Recaros have been
trimmed in plush
BMW nappa leather

You can’t beat the old-school
looks of sorted Mk3 Escort
Ed Spencer’s
FRP-engined
Fiesta was featured last issue
