Fast Ford – September 2019

(vip2019) #1
QUICK SPEC 2.0-litre YB, 4x4 head ported and polished, 1000cc injectors, BD16 inlet cam, AS plenum, 4x4 block,
Mahle pistons with cutouts, ARP long studs, bigger crank shelves, lightened and balanced bottom end, WRC
head gasket, tubular manifold, 3in Mongoose exhaust system, GTX3082 turbo, Forge dump valve, 44mm external
wastegate screamer pipe, Honda K20 coil packs, Link ECU, AP 6 paddle clutch, DW 350 IL fuel pump, Spec-R
breather system, power steering pot, header tank, turbo shield, swirl pot, trimming cover, fuse box cover, polish

Having owned this Saph for over
seven years, Chris – or Hippy to
his mates – has transformed it.
The Diamond White saloon looks
immaculate inside and out, but it’s
the engine bay that really steals the
show. Open the bonnet and you’ll
find a glittering array of polished
alloy, braided lines and silicone

hose. But it’s more than just a pretty
lump; this YB has been tuned to a
hefty 570bhp, which means it packs
a proper punch too. A 4x4 block
features forged pistons, while a WRC
head gasket, tubular manifold and
3in Mongoose exhaust do their thing.
A GTX3082 turbo provides the boost
and it’s all managed by a Link ECU.

All of the work was done by Chris or
Dave Pritchard at DP Motorsport,
with the alloy fab work by Peter
at Spec-R. A cracking example of
the Saph which is awaiting more
mapping for anti-lag to be wired in,
before his fits an uprated diff and
gearbox, some 6-pot brakes, and a
six-degree rear beam.
