Fast Ford – September 2019

(vip2019) #1
FAST FLEET

Mark did get time
for a few laps out on
track at Combe

Hannah's FoCos attracted a
lot of attention on show at RS
Combe recently

Hannah was
behind the wheel
for most of the
track sessions

Well I managed it. I finally
managed to sneak out
on track at RS Combe!
I’m usually tied-up with
organiser stuff, but I
managed to slide away early
in the day to get a few laps
on track. The car was brilliant and, despite
the scorching weather, I was happy to see
everything stayed nice and cool. However,
there was one little gremlin that reared its
head; the gearbox started to feel notchy in
fourth...
Hannah took the car out several times
throughout the day too, and gradually
the notchiness became more and more
noticeable, until at the end of the day it was
almost impossible to select fourth. It didn’t
dampen what was a fantastic day, but clearly
something wasn’t right.

The Escort Cossie gets put through its

paces on track at RS Combe...

MARK ESCORT COSWORTH

The following week the ‘box was out of
the car and sent off to Pete Doughty for
inspection. It turns out the syncro had
failed, and that’s what was causing the issue.
Quite a simple fix, and the car will soon be

back together and ready for its next outing
at Ford Fair. With Hannah’s FoCos build
progressing nicely too, we’re all set for both
cars to be on track at Silverstone – let’s see if
she can keep up! I’m pretty sure she will!
