ctress Michelle Hardwick joined

the Emmerdale cast as Vanessa

Woodfield nearly seven years ago.

The 43 year old is now engaged to

Emmerdale’s producer Kate Brooks and

planning a low-key wedding for later this

year. They live in the countryside just outside

Leeds with their cavapoo dog Fred.

‘I love Friday nights because it’s TV time.

Kate and I will have a cheeky beer or a

gin and tonic, because we deserve it at

the end of the week and it’s our time.

I never learn lines on a Friday night,

even if I have a big day on Monday.

We generally stay in and watch a

series or a film; at the minute we’re

on the second series of Big Little

Lies and Back To Life.

‘When you have a dog you’re up

early, even on a Saturday. We get

chores done and then we might take

Fred for a long walk or go for a drive.

Afterwards we’ll do a big shop.

‘On a Saturday night, if we’re

not having friends over, we’ll put

YouTube on and have our own little

karaoke night with a few drinks,

which doesn’t always please Fred

but we amuse ourselves. It’s daft,

but we love it.

‘Kate is from a huge family, with

loads of nieces and nephews and

I absolutely adore them. She usually

goes up to Liverpool on a Sunday to

see them and if I don’t go with her, it’s

work mode for me and I learn lines.

‘If Kate’s here we don’t do a roast –

neither or us ever have because Kate

isn’t a big meat eater; if we have one

we usually go out for a carvery. My

mum makes a good one but hasn’t

done for ages. Luckily she’s retiring

soon so she might get back on that!’

Emmerdale is on weeknights at 7pm.
