MY WEEKEND
Kirstie Allsopp
W
e know Kirstie best for her
Channel 4 property programmes
Location, Location, Location,
Relocation, Relocation and
Love It Or List It with her co-host Phil
Spencer. The TV presenter shows off her
knack for crafts on Kirstie’s Handmade
Christmas and joins the makers at The
Handmade Festival at Hampton Court
Palace next month. Kirstie, who turns
48 today, lives in London and Devon
with her partner Ben Andersen, their
two sons Bay, 13, and Oscar, 11,
and their stepbrothers from Ben’s
previous relationship.
‘I’m very lucky that I don’t have to work during
the summer holidays. We’ve just been to the
Bahamas where there is no TV for the kids
to watch.
‘Ben and I have two weekends a year to
ourselves, which usually involve visiting friends.
We’re terrible creatures of habit.
‘On Friday we catch the train from
Paddington to our home in Devon. We light
a fire, even in the summer, and have fish for
supper. On Saturday we’ll go to an auction in
Exeter or Homerton. The children like them,
too. Ben is a keen fan of the TK Maxx in
Exeter. One day he’ll get some kind of Head
Customer award.
‘We often have friends to stay over at the
weekend – four, six, eight or even 10 people
- and everyone loves riding our vintage fire
engine to the village pub. No one can resist
jumping aboard to ring the bell. The boys like
to jump off the back and run behind. It’s such
a sweet sight.
‘We try to eat outside whenever possible.
Ben fires up our Big Green Egg barbecue in
the garden.
‘We haven’t made it through a single
summer in five years without an injury of some
kind. My stepson has a motorbike ramp so
there’s usually a lot of whizzing around and
a high ratio of broken bones.
‘On Sunday we enjoy supper at The Pig near
Homerton and then we head back to London
in the evening ready for work and school.’
