One long table, or two pushed together, creates a spacious serving
area where pots of chili can comfortably sit side by side. Stack
bowls and utensils on both sides of the serving table for easy access.
Choose a seating style that suits your space. Another long table, a
group of small tables and chairs, or an eclectic layering of picnic
blankets all work great to create a come-and-go space where people
can sit, eat, and enjoy each other’s company. Set out cozy blankets
for people to grab when conversations last longer than the sunshine.

Once everyone has arrived,
chili pots in hand, share details
about how the gathering will
unfold. Will people vote for their
favorite pots? Or is the chili
simply something for everyone
to share and savor? With your
encouragement, sampling the
varieties can take on a life of its
own—adding a little more flavor
to the meal and the conversation.
