NEW AMMO OFFER-
INGS INCLUDE 10MM
AND .22 LOADS
Ammo manufacturers are trying to
keep up with shooters’ demands by
introducing new loads for popular
cartridges, including a couple for the
resurgent 10mm cartridge and some
for ever-present .22 rimfi res.

Federal Premium has a new 10mm
load using the company’s HST bullet
intended for self-defense. The HST’s
design is geared toward reaching
top terminal performance through
consistent expansion and optimal
penetration, by maintaining jacket
and bullet core integrity for 100%
weight retention and a hollow point
that won’t plug as it passes through
barriers. Federal’s HST 10mm fea-
tures a 200-grain bullet launched
at 1,130 feet per second from the
muzzle. A box of 20 will have a
suggested retail price of $34.95.

Winchester Ammunition has two
new 10mm offerings: the Defender
for hunting and defense and a full
metal jacket “White Box” load. The
Defender uses a 180-grain bonded
hollowpoint for excellent weight
retention and penetration. It has a
listed muzzle velocity of 1,240 feet
per second. It joins the company’s
Silvertip 10mm hollow point in the
company’s lineup. The value-priced
full metal jacket load uses a
180-grain bullet at 1,080 feet per
second and is intended for practice
or competition. Prices vary among
retailers.

CCI Ammunition has introduced sub-
sonic and high velocity loads in its
new Clean-22 ammo in .22 LR (Long
Rifl e.) The ammo uses a polymer
coating on the 40-grain bullets to
reduce copper and lead fouling for
easier cleanup and enhanced reli-
ability, especially in semi-autos. The
subsonic round, with blue coating, is
rated at 1,070 feet per second and

is purported to reduce lead buildup
in suppressors too. The high velocity
load, with red coating, leaves the
muzzle at 1,235 feet per second. A
100-round box of either will retail
for a suggest $9.95.

GECO has introduced two new 9mm
Luger defense loads: Red Zone
and Action Extreme. The Red Zone
ammo features a 124-grain bullet
and is designed for devastating
expansion from short-barreled
pistols common for concealed carry.
The hollowpoint is said to expand
to an average .6 inch with nearly
100 percent retained weight with
12 to 13 inches of penetration when
velocities of 1,000 to 1,150 feet per
second are achieved. The company’s
Action Extreme ammo features a
light 108-grain bullet and offers
excellent terminal performance in
all barrel lengths from sub-compact
pistols through pistol-caliber car-
bines. A box of 50 Red Zone ammo
has a MSRP of $14.55. A 20-round
box of Action Extreme has a MSRP
of $19.74.
