Concealed Carry Handguns – August 2019

oaring out of a 2.5-inch bar-
rel, a .41-caliber, 175-grain
Winchester Silvertip bullet
launched from a slightly
recessed muzzle warps downrange at
more than 1,000 fps, and when it hits
something, it’s going to hurt.

Charter Arms’ Nick Ecker probably
saw me coming when he decided
to chamber his five-round XL-framed
double-action revolver in a de-
fense-size package. After all, it is
widely known that the .41 Magnum is
my favorite of the magnum wheelgun
cartridges, and even from a Mag Pug
platform, this round delivers the goods
and then some.

Built tough from stainless steel with
a matte finish, full underlug barrel,
swing-out cylinder, full rubber grips
with molded checkering on both sides
and finger grooves along the front
strap, the .41 Mag Pug is a handful.

Now, I’m not going to mislead
anybody. When this baby roars it also
bucks. Recoil just might be more than
some folks can handle, but I found it
manageable and the only problem
I experienced was that the grooved
trigger tapers down to a very narrow
tip that pinched my index finger more
than once. That has happened on one

The Charter 41
Mag Pug features
all-stainless con-
struction with a full
underlug barrel.
It’s built on the
XL frame, with a
wraparound rubber
grip.

BOTTOM LEFT:
Charter’s cylinder
holds five rounds.
The cylinder walls
are beefy enough
to handle those
magnum rounds.
BOTTOM MIDDLE:
Looking into the
bore of this .41 Mag-
num short gun, one
observes that it is
cut with eight lands
and grooves.
BOTTOM RIGHT:
The trigger is
grooved, which
some people may
not like but author
Workman likes for
nasty environments.
