Another basic premise for two armed

citizens working together is, “watch

each other’s back.” When using various

types of cover, when facing multiple

attackers, an attempt may be made to

flank your position.

buildingascover,twogoodguysmay

defendagainstattackersapproaching

ifnecessary.

Traditionally, it might seem likely that
the man will cover while the women
will evacuate the children, et. al., but
what if she is more highly trained
having attended a good shooting acad-
emy? Or, what if she is wearing high
heels that will make it difficult for her
to move quickly? Part of preparing to
face danger is evaluating options.

FIRE AND MOVEMENT
I have a lot of ex-military friends who

are aware that in some urban encoun-

ters you might be facing multiple gang

members or active shooters, making

a retreat necessary. Understanding

fire and movement with two or more

good guys will increase the chance of

survival. In simple terms, one will cover

while the other retreats to a cover

position.

The one who has reached cover will

then cover the retreat of the first good

guy while he leapfrogs to a cover

position further away from danger. This

will continue until clear of the kill zone

or until reaching a more defensible
