Concealed Carry Handguns – August 2019

wise as do Smith & WessonandRuger
revolvers. That’s good to know if you’re
loading from speed strips or have loose
rounds and want to top off your ammo
from behind cover during a lull in the
action of a gunfi ght or have time only
to load two. Knowing how the cylinder
rotates is good too if you want to load
the chambers with different ammo
to fi re in a particular order, say two
shotshells fi rst, two .38 Specials next and
two .357 Magnums last. Try that with
your semi-auto.

The cylinder release is a push-button
style and rather rectangular in shape.
It’s large enough to be operated quickly
under stress and is situated as are most
to be convenient for the thumb of a
right-handed shooter.

The cylinder has very shallow fl uting.
I wish it was a little more pronounced.
While you might think fl uting is primarily
for shaving weight, it has a tactical use
as well. During reloading in the dark or
while keeping your eyes scanning for
additional threats, you can position the
thumb of your left hand on the fl utes to
rotate the cylinder and to properly index
it for the insertion of fresh ammo. That
way, whether you’re using a speedload-
er, speed strips or loose rounds two at
a time, you can reload without looking
down at the gun.

The grips are attractive walnut with fi n-

gergrooves
that help in
positioning
your shooting
hand high on the
backstrap where it belongsfordefensive
shooting. The grips featurediamond-pat-
tern checkering for a sure hold and are
nicely decorated with the Kimber logo
too, in case you forget who made your
gun. The grips don’t cover the backstrap,
but the backstrap is serrated.

The barrel has a full underlug and
ejector rod shroud, which puts some of
the weight out front where it can help
mitigate muzzle fl ip with powerful .357
ammo. The trigger guard isn’t overly
large, but it is elongated to allow more
room for a gloved fi nger.

SEMI SIGHTS
The sights on Kimber K6s revolvers are
among its best features. Usually with
revolvers, you either have a groove
cut in the top strap for a rear sight or
a fully adjustable rear sight. A groove
is trouble-free, but you’re stuck with it
and adjustable sights can be fragile and
subject to snagging.

The Kimber’s sights are fashioned like
high visibility sights on a semi-au-
to pistol. Not only do they provide
quick sight acquisition, but there’s the
familiarity factor too. That’s helpful if
you swap back and forth between a

semi-auto and this revolver, such as
you might do for various roles such as
on-duty versus off-duty, primary versus
backup or urban versus rural carry.

The sights are black with a three-
white-dot confi guration. The front sight
is pinned in place, not integral with the
barrel, so it could be possible to swap
out the sight to adjust for elevation for
a particular load. The rear sight is in
a dovetail secured by a set screw, so
windage adjustments are possible too.

RANGE TIME
One of the best features of the Kimber
K6s revolvers is the trigger pull. Kimber
lists the pull at 9.5 to 11.5 pounds
double action and 3.25 to 4.25 pounds
single action. According to my trigger
pull gauge, my test gun was at the

The K6s revolver
features a six-round
cylinder, one more
than some other
handguns this size.
