A SUPPRESSEDCARRYGUN?
Some might see the choice of a threaded barrel on a carry gun to be unusual. After
all, most pistol silencers can easily run the same length as the slide of the pistol and
that can give you problems when trying to conceal the pistol, let alone trying to fi nd
a holster that fi ts.
That is until you select a micro-sized can like the Gemtech Aurora 2, which I acquired
through SilencerShop.com. This little suppressor is a scant 3.3 inches in length and is
based on a design produced in 1995 for use by military pilots as part of their escape
and evade (E&E) kits.
The Aurora 2 utilizes eight neoprene “wipes” inside the tube and held in place by
aluminum spacers. The lack of a booster/Nielsen device is possible as the unit is
lightandsmallenoughthatvirtuallyallmodernhandgunswillcyclewiththiscan
mounteddirectlytothebarrel.Thewipesaredisposableandlast15-25rounds
beforebecominguseless.Accordingly,theAurora2 isnotintendedfor"everyday"rangeuse.Itis,however,
acooladditiontoabug-out-bag.However,youcanonlyshootFMJammunition
throughitasahollowpointwillbegintoexpandassoonasitcontactsthewipesand
willdamagethecan.TheAurora2 isuniqueinanotherway,too.Eachendofthecanhasadi erentthread
pattern:½x 28andM13.5x 1 LH.The laser engraved basket-weave pattern and removal of the factory inger
grooves by Nevada Cerakote make for a pistol that is comfortable in the
hand as well as aesthetically pleasing.Every part pro-
