son and I moved on to the steel plate
range and did the rest of our shooting
there. This is where the TX22 really
shines. It’s a comfortable gun to shoot
with a good trigger. Working the
plate racks was fast and fun and the
16-round magazine was a nice bonus
as it kept us shooting longer and
reloading less. It’s a great pistol to prac-
tice double taps. The magazine release
is conventionally placed and drops the
mags free when you hit it so you can
brush up on your reloading technique
when you work with the TX22.

Clean up after the range was quick and
easy as well. The TX22 has a pretty
straightforward takedown procedure,
which is well detailed in the manual.
It does require that you pull the trigger
first though, so always ensure the mag
is removed and the chamber empty
before doing so.

SUPPRESS IT
One of the unique features of the TX22
is the suppressor adapter. If you don’t
have a suppressor and don’t intend on
getting one, then you just leave the
TX22 as it comes out of the box with

the thread protector in place. Unless
you look close you won’t even realize
it’s there. If you do need it though,
it’s pretty ingenious. Just unscrew
the thread protector with a 3/8-inch
wrench (not included) and spin on the
included adapter. You need a 9/16-
inch wrench to tighten the adapter
down. The adapter adds a portion of
½ x 28 inch threads, which is standard
for a rimfire suppressor. The threaded
adapter extends about a half inch
beyond the slide.

I used my Surefire Ryder A suppressor
with the TX22 and it was a great pair-
ing. The TX22 only weighs a bit over 17
ounces empty and adding the Surefire
only bumps that weight up to 21
ounces. It’s an extremely nimble gun to
shoot. You’re well within hearing safe
levels with the suppressor installed.
When shooting steel, all we heard was
the ting of rounds hitting the targets.

MULTIPLE ROLES
So, for what is the TX22 best suited?
Pretty much anything you want to do
with it. It’s accurate and reliable and
would make a great choice for .22 Rim-

fire matches. As mentioned already,
it’s close enough in size and design to
make a great understudy to your carry
or duty gun as well.

Its light weight makes it a good choice
for a trail or tackle box gun too. While
I’d never advocate a .22 target pistol
as a serious defense gun, I will say
that, if it’s what you had with you on
the trail, it’s certainly a lot better than
harsh language. A face full of .22s from
a high capacity, easy to shoot, accurate
pistol would discourage most folks I’d
imagine.

I have a number of .22 pistols, but I’ll
be adding the TX22 to my tool box. It’s
reliable, accurate, low maintenance,
easy to shoot with good controls, good
sights, easy take-down, and has the
ability to take a suppressor and a light.
Add in the 16 round magazines, Ameri-
can manufacture and reasonable MSRP,
and I think Taurus has a real winner in
the TX22. CC
