Listening to music is a priority for users when using their
in-car entertainment system. However, with smartphones
entering the fray, there was a need to modernise the in-car
entertainment to an infotainment system and this is where
services like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come into the
picture. Car manufacturers have been marketing it for quite
some time but are you really aware of the advantages of
using it compared to the car manufacturer’s built-in
infotainment system?
Safety is paramount when it comes to driving and that’s
one of the reasons why you see car manufacturers
implementing features like on-steering multimedia controls so
that the driver is not distracted while trying to fiddle with the
infotainment controls or screen on the dashboard. Smart
infotainment systems take safety a step ahead and also
enhance the user’s driving experience.


Using these smart infotainments is quite simple. Just plug
in an Android device if the car supports Android Auto or an
iPhone for Apple CarPlay. You may have to download the
Android Auto app if your device does not come with it. The
phone automatically detects that it is plugged into an
Android Auto or Apple CarPlay compatible system and will
switch to the respective user interface on the car’s display.
Coming back to the advantages compared to the
infotainment system that’s baked in, the user interface on the
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is much more user-friendly
and responsive, making it easy to use compared to the car’s
default interface. You can leave pressing the buttons or
fiddling the dashboard display to navigate because
everything can be controlled via Google Assistant (on
Android Auto) or Siri (on Apple CarPlay). In our experience,
Google Assistant is better at picking up Indian accents that
