As runners, we can spend a lot of time landing on the
perfect shoe that will hold up over those long training runs.
Yet, we also need to do our strength training at the gym or
at home, performing squats, lunges and lifting weights.
So why isn’t there a shoe that’s designed for the time we
spend training for race day away from the road?
This is one of the concepts that led to Under Armour
creating the brand new Hover Apex, a shoe meant for
higher intensity, multifunctional training. Designed with
stability in mind, the Apex’s secure heel, made of hard
plastic and featuring a high collar, locks in your ankle for
added support when performing strength exercises. It’s also
a wide shoe, from the upper down to the outsole, to help
with your balance during circuit and weight training. You
can also use the Apex for sprint training in a pinch, or even
the odd one-on-one basketball session, given its supportive
structure and stiff outsole that features a multi-directional
traction pattern to aid in bursts of speed and takeoff.
Yet it may be the Apex’s bold retro fashion statement,
featuring neon orange and green colourways on the model
we tested is sure to catch the most attention.
Luckily, the ’90s are in.—CR
