Redding Marathon

19 is still being repaired.” Since the fire,
the Redding Marathon has donated
to the local trail alliance that works
closely with the City of Redding, the
Bureau of Land Management and the
McConnell Foundation to restore the
damaged trails.
Beyond its appeal as a BQ, the
Redding Marathon also offers partic-
ipants the option to register for a
marathon relay and the Sundial 5k,
making the event accessible to all
levels of runners and even families.
Parks counts about 100 marathon
relay teams that come from all over
the United States, while adding that
there was also a runner or two from
Canada in previous years. She hopes
more Canadians might be enticed to
come down for this upcoming edition.
Since the race’s inception, the city of

Redding has seen significant growth
in the local running community and
tourism. Redding is the largest city in
the Shasta Cascade area, with more
than 91,000 residents. The area is also
considered as one of the top fishing
destinations in North America, the
houseboat capital of the world and
a must-visit for magnificent land-
scapes that include Lassen Volcanic
National Park, Whiskeytown National
Recreation Area and the Trinity Alps.
Whether you’re on the hunt for a new
BQ this year or looking for an off-the-
beaten-path adventure, Shasta Cascade
in upstate California is a solid bet.

Melissa Offner is a television and podcast
host, the leader of the North Vancouver
run crew RUNDISTRIKT, as well as an avid
runner and trail runner.
