ASICS
Gel-Kayano 26

Men’s: 315 g (11.1 oz.)
Women’s: 261 g (9.2 oz.)
Drop ratio: 10 mm
$220

This latest iteration of Asics’ Kayano should provide
a more comfortable ride than previous versions.
Asics’ Flytefoam Propel material in the midsole,
made from organic fibres, provides much of the
shoe’s spring that assists in propelling you forward
and brings a more cushioned landing than previous
versions. Made with overpronators in mind,
Asics updated the shoe’s rear-foot foam to hold it
in place more firmly for a more secure foot plant.
The Kayano 26 also comes with a new contoured
sock liner that feels great.
And it’s worth noting that the Gel-Kayano 26
definitely catches the eye more than previous
versions, with shiny new reflective colourways in
Mako Blue/Sour Yuzu (the latter a blend of yellow and
orange) for men and Laser Pink/Sour Yuzu in women’s.

Nike
Zoom Pegasus
Turbo 2

Men’s: 283 g (10 oz.)
Women’s: 196 g (6.9 oz.)
Drop: 10 mm
$235

Take one look at the Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2 and
you know precisely what this shoe is all about:
style, comfort and a dash of speed.
Unveiled in June, Nike’s updated this second
iteration of the Pegasus Turbo with a lighter upper
made from luminous material that enhances the
shoe’s breathability and adds to its sleek look, along
with the exaggerated swoosh over the midsole.
Nike claims the ultralight ZoomX foam in the
Turbo’s midsole provides the most energy return
of any of their running shoes to date. However,
the shoe’s exceptional cushiony feel through the
midsole when transitioning from landing to takeoff
is probably the ZoomX’s strongest feature. The
heel collar, other than looking cool, tapers away
from the foot, and prevents chafing at the Achilles
tendon. The Turbo 2’s will work your Achilles
tendon, though, so transition into them with a few
easy runs before dialling up the pace.
The only knock against the Turbo 2 may be
its hefty price tag.

New Balance
870 v5

Men’s: 273 g (9.6 oz.)
Women’s: 234 g (8.3 oz.)
Drop ratio: 6 mm
$150

The newly released New Balance 870v5 provides
plenty of cushioning and support with a slightly
structured engineered knit upper that runners
should find comfortably snug and breathable.
The midsole contains REVlite cushioning, providing
a firm yet responsive feel, and a stabilizing medial
post to assist those who pronate. New Balance
provides the option of purchasing both the
standard width or the extra wide option.
During testing, we found the v5’s felt comfortable
right from the first run, with a roomy toe box and a
cushioned feel through the midfoot upon footstrike.
Soft, light and with a dash of responsiveness, the v5
is a great option when it comes to comfort.
