Canadian Running – September-October 2019

(Darren Dugan) #1
The Infinite will appeal to runners, looking for a
neutral trainer for both speed work and high mileage.
Runners should enjoy the feel of the lightweight,
breathable mesh upper that Under Armour custom-
ized for each gender’s anatomical needs, and comes
in various shoe widths to choose from. Those
prone to turning over on their ankle will also like
the shoe’s high supportive collar.
If you prefer a firmer ride, the Hover Infinite is
for you and has a relatively slim, 8 mm drop ratio,
with responsive cushioning in the midsole. One
could look at the Infinite as a distance shoe with a
dash of racing-flat performance, making it an ideal,
all-around trainer.
And like the Hovr Velociti 2, the Infinite comes
with an internal sensor that connects to the
MapMyRun app to track, analyze and store your
key running metrics.

Runners looking for a comfortable trainer with
built-in energy return that’s nothing to scoff at will
enjoy this second iteration of the Sonic RA Max.
The Max 2 comes with more comfort and
energy return than its predecessor, as a result of
the shoe’s enhanced EnergyCell+ material and
increased cushioning in the midsole. Additionally,
in the heel and forefront, Salomon also employs its
proprietary Vibe technology in the Max 2, which
reduces vibrations through the foot upon surface
contact, aiding in a notably smoother transition
from landing through take off.
Gone should be complaints from those trying
to fit comfortably in a pair Max’s in this second
version which now includes a wider toe box. Further,
for those whose toes tend to rub right through the
front-end of their shoe’s upper overtime, Salomon
has reinforced the Max 2 with an extra layer of
material here, cleverly blended within the fabric.

The Sensation 4 stands out as an aesthetically
pleasing shoe with a breathable double mesh
overlay in several sleek colourways.
One of the most surprising features of this
stability trainer is its weight. The shoe only
weighs 240 grams. For context, that’s only
30 grams heavier than New Balance’s speedy
new FuelCell Rebel.
A moderate-stability shoe, with about two
inches of posting through the midsole, the
Sensation 4 is ideal for those who pronate slightly
or even a neutral runner. You’re hard-pressed
to find a stability shoe this light, so if you’re
looking for something snappy that can get
you through a long run while keeping your foot
supported, you’ve found it.
