VeloPress

In a social-media driven world, it can be hard to wade through
the endless options and opinions on the right way to fuel.
That’s why Justyna and Krzysztof Mizera created The Sports
Nutrition Handbook: Eat Smart. Be Healthy. Get on Top of Your
Game, with common-sense approaches for athletes on how to
nourishing their bodies.
The Sports Nutrition Handbook authors drill down to the
building blocks behind why certain food and hydration options
provide optimal fuelling for your body. In doing so, athletes
are armed with the right kind of knowledge when hitting the
grocery or health food store among an array of options.
The book also answers very specific questions often on
athletes minds, such as ‘Why do I bonk?’, ‘How much water
should I drink each day?’ and ‘How many carbs should I eat and
when?’ making it a go-to reference point that gets straight to
the point with answers to some of the most commonly asked
sports nutrition questions.—CR

FALL 2019
Nike
Zoom Fly 3
Men’s: 285 g (10 oz.)
Women’s: 197 g (6.9 oz.)
Drop ratio: 8 mm
$210
If the Turbo 2 reigns in the style department when it
comes to Nike’s latest line of shoe offerings, the Nike
Zoom Fly is the king of speed.
Available as of July 2019, and taking a nod from
Nike’s popular Vaporfly model, the Zoom Fly 3
comes with a curved, carbon-fibre plate that runs the
length of the midsole, providing extra propulsion to
your stride. The plate, combined with the Fly 3’s
full-length React cushioned midsole, provides speedy,
smooth transitions. The low collar at the back also
conforms to your foot for a racing flat feel.
The Fly 3 features Nike’s translucent and durable
Vapourweave material in the upper, which, like the
Turbo 2, gives it top marks in the looks department
while allowing your foot to breathe. The shoe’s
comfort extends to the multi-layered bootie that
includes a stretchy tongue, comfortable, split-heel
counter that provides for more movement in your
Achilles and an outward stretching collar to prevent
against chafing. Like the Vaporfly, we noticed the
Zoom outsole showed signs of wear and tear in
under 30 kilometres on test runs indicating the Fly
3 may not be your first choice as a day-in, day-out
training shoe.—CR
