“This design was inspired by an ink drawing from artist Karina
Puente,” says Sweet & Saucy Shop’s lead cake designer, Kyong Bell.
The Cali-based baker used potters’ tools like an extruder and
clay-shaping molds to painstakingly fashion the appliqués. “I layered
pieces of fondant cutouts to create highlights and shadows, adding
visual interest and tonal differences to the cake,” she says. $15 per slice,
