One of my favorite things about working
at Good Housekeeping is giving tours of
the GH Institute—and showing off the
meticulous analysis happening every day
in our Labs. It’s so fun to watch the awe
and amazement on people’s faces when
they see our chemists, engineers and
other scientists in action. Few could
imagine the lengths we go to when testing
everything from beauty and cleaning to
bedding, toys, appliances, speakers, home
improvement, cars and more. Items are
inspected, pushed, pulled, shaken and
stirred before we recommend anything.
It’s even more impressive when a
product goes the distance to earn the
iconic GH Seal, now in its 110th year. This
is no easy feat considering that our Lab
experts must stand behind each item (and
its claims) so much that they’re willing
to put GH’s reputation on the line—we
back each GH Seal star with our signature
limited warranty.* If an item with the
GH Seal does not live up to its promise,
our customer service team will help fix the
issue—on our dime. We stand behind each
GH Seal star with our own money! There’s
truly a Willy Wonka–like allure on the 29th
floor of Hearst. Let’s take a tour!
WALL OF FAME & SHAME!
As you exit the elevator, the first stop is
a giant GH Seal and a display case where
we show off winners and losers from
our testing. Items above the red line got
a thumbs-up, while ones below it were
found to be misleading or unsafe.
BEAUTY CENTRAL
Across the hall, the chemists in the Beauty
Lab are always busy analyzing the newest,
buzziest, latest and greatest lotions and
potions for you! One day it might be the
colorfastness of hair dye (we test it on real
