Capricorn (DEC. 22-JAN. 19)
Home improvements will enhance your relationship with a loved
one. Do as much of the work yourself as you can to save a bun-
dle. A commitment will add to your security.

Aquarius (JAN. 20-FEB. 19)
Refuse to let emotional instability take the reins. If you are uncer-
tain, ask questions. If you feel left out, say so. If you want some-
thing, make a request.

Pisces (FEB. 20-MARCH 20)
Don't be fooled by the hype. If something sounds too good to be
true, take the time to do some thorough research. Positive
change is the result of hard work, discipline and practicality.

Aries (MARCH 21-APRIL 19)
Take a moment to go over all the little details that could pose a
problem if they're not implemented properly. Trust the facts, not
what others try to lead you to believe.

Taurus (APRIL 20-MAY 20)
Slow down and enjoy the moment. You have plenty to look for-
ward to, so relax and lower your stress for now. Refuse to let any-
one rile you up emotionally.

Gemini (MAY 21-JUNE 20)
You'll have a choice to make, but first consider the validity or
source of the information you have been given. Keep your life
simple and frugal, and surround yourself with trustworthy peo-
ple.

Cancer (JUNE 21-JULY 22)
If you make a change, you'll make a difference. How you use your
knowledge, experience and skills to help others will influence the
way you are viewed. Earn respect and gain popularity.

Leo (JULY 23-AUG. 22)
A snap decision made while under emotional pressure will cause
anxiety. If you aren't sure about something or someone, trust
your instincts and take a step back.

Virgo (AUG. 23-SEPT. 22)
Live and learn. The experience and knowledge you receive inter-
acting with people who have something to offer will be enlighten-
ing. A change is favored and romance is encouraged.

Libra (SEPT. 23-OCT. 23)
Be smart and take care of business on time. If you do your best,
it won't matter if you can't please others. It's how you feel about
what you do that counts.

Scorpio (OCT. 24-NOV. 22)
Take the plunge and make a change you've been considering for
some time. Follow your creative instincts and turn your dream
into reality. Romance will enhance your life.

with people who can offer insight into the dos and don'ts that will
make your journey stress-free. Implement a healthier lifestyle.

nine. If East had won eco-
nomically with his 10, declar-
er would have been forced
into taking the heart finesse.
But East won misleadingly
with his queen, realizing that
this could not cost. Then East
shifted to a low heart, forcing
South to commit himself.
What were the mathemat-
ics?
The heart suit needed one
card well placed: a straight 50
percent. But in clubs, declarer
had to find West with both a
royal and the 10, which was
only 37.7 percent. So, South
went with the sums and
played his heart queen to
make the slam.

Herbert Henry Asquith, the
British prime minister from
1908 to 1916, said, "The war
office kept three sets of fig-
ures. One to mislead the pub-
lic, another to mislead the
Cabinet, and the third to mis-
lead itself."
At the bridge table, you
sometimes get the chance to
mislead the opponents. How
does that apply in this deal?
South is in six spades, and
West leads the diamond 10.
When North used a trans-
fer bid, South jumped to three
spades to show a maximum,
four-card spade support and
a doubleton somewhere.
North, not wishing to give the
defenders any more informa-
tion, bid what he hoped his
partner could make.
South started with 11 top
tricks: five spades, one heart,
four diamonds and one club.
He had chances for an extra
winner in both hearts and
clubs.
After winning the first trick
on the board, South drew
trumps ending in hand, then

Kakuro

THE ANALECTS OF CONFUCIUS

Zi Zhang asked how to promote virtue and solve a
dilemma.

The Master said, “Be sincere and faithful and follow
what is right, that is the way to promote virtue.
If you love a man and wish him to live, and
then hate him and wish him to die, you are in a
dilemma.” It is said in the Book of Odes: “I cans’t
bear your disdain, So I go back with pain,”
(Disdain shows your hate and pain reveals your love.)

A Kakuro consists of a playing area of
filled and empty cells similar to a cross-
word puzzle. Some black cells contain a
diagonal slash from top left to bottom
right with numbers in them, called “the
clues”. A number in the top right corner
relates to an “across” clue and one in the
bottom left a “down” clue. The object of a
Kakuro is to insert digits from one to nine
into the white cells to total the clue asso-
ciated with it. However no digit can be
duplicated in an entry.
