The Blue Whale Limited
Edition (200 examples)
completes the Oris Ocean
Trilogy collection. It has
a 45.50m case and is
waterproof at up to 500
metres. It isn’t for sale
separately, but only
in a box that features two
references (9,000 euro).
es has increased rapidly, as has our awareness
of the risks related to the marine environment.
That’s why we want to do our bit today.
This year you presented the Oris Ocean Tril-
ogy, three watches in a limited series that are
designed to support three different initiatives.
Please tell us more. With the Clean Ocean Lim-
ited Edition we are supporting the Pacific Gar-
bage Screening initiative. This was founded by
Marcella Hansch, who has developed an inno-
vative platform that can recover plastic in riv-
ers and estuaries before it ends up in the sea.
For this watch we have used recycled plastic in
the form of the logo which has been applied to
the caseback. In this way we hope to show that
plastic can have a useful second life by becom-
ing part of an object of value like a mechanical
watch. With the Great Barrier Limited Edition III,
on the other hand, we support the Reef Resto-
ration Foundation, while the Blue Whale Limited
Edition helps Whale and Dolphin Conservation.
Oris presented its first waterproof watch
in 1965. Was that when the sea started to
become a significant feature of the mai-
son’s collection?
Since then the sea has become a cornerstone of
our range of products. With the ‘Der Meister-
taucher’ Regulateur, for example, we were the
first company to create a waterproof watch
with a regulatory dial where the minute hand
is at the centre, and is separate from the hour
hand. This functional approach is one of Oris’s
distinguishing features.
