A HEALTHY PART OF POST-FACIAL BLISS IS EMERGING
with a contoured qua lity to your face. Using facia l massage, a
skilled aesthetician can define your jawbone, sculpt your
cheekbones, soften fine lines on your forehead and def late
puffiness around your eyes. Hello, mini-facelift! But such an
outcome doesn’t demand seeing a pro exclusively. Now, a
growing number of beauty tools are putting the power to
achieve at-home results in your hands.
“My beauty mantra is that it is better to maintain than to
reclaim,” says Jamie Sherrill, a registered nurse and owner
of Beauty Park Medical Spa in Los Angeles. “I have always
been a firm believer in the power of massage and the differ-
ent massage techniques used in our signature facials, but it’s
impossible to find time for that on a daily basis,” says Sher-
rill. Inspired to equip her clients for quick at-home mainte-
nance, the celebrity skincare expert developed Nurse Jamie
beauty tools that boast user-friendly designs. Along with
encouraging skin to defy the pull of gravity, applying gentle
pressure to the face, neck and chest creates lymphatic drain-
age, nixing puffiness and leading to a tightened appearance.

For best results use tools with a skincare product rather
than on dry skin. “One of the keys to a successful gua sha ses-
sion is using an oil serum that has a perfect slip, so you can
glide [the stone] on the skin and not pull,” says Valerie Gran-
dury, founder and CEO of the clean beauty brand Odacité.
Grandury first discovered gua sha (pronounced “gwah-
shah”), a traditional Chinese medicine practice, in Hong
Kong during a body treatment that rejuvenated her after
travelling. Impressed by the results, she created a stone tool
that was suitable for the face. “Gua sha is the deep tissue
[massage] of facial rollers,” she says. “It has the ability to
work on fascia tissue that envelops muscle, which is rich in
collagen, for a stimulating and lifting effect. It helps f lush
away toxins and maintain clear skin, and it has a fabulous
rela xing effect on the face.”
Choosing from the array of wands, rollers and stones
comes down to preference. Find one that feels like a natural
fit in your hand. “The best beauty tool is something that is
easy to use and something that you will actually use,” says
Sherrill. “You’ll see a difference after the first treatment, and
regular use will strengthen your results,” says Grandury. If
daily use seems ambitious, even a few minutes throughout
the week will keep things moving in the right direction. bh
