ALL CARS’ FOR
FATHER’S DAY
T
he Nelson branch of the Rover
Car Club is organizing a Classic
& Collectable Car Show day at
Higgins Heritage Park in Wakefield,
making for a great dad’s day out on
Father’s Day, 1 September. Club secretary
Chris Clark invites all classic car owners and
enthusiasts to attend this annual show day,
which will run from 10.30am to 3pm.
The Pigeon Valley Steam Museum, one
of many heritage organizations based at
the park, is arranging a steam-up of several
old steam engines, traction-engine rides,
and rides on the bush jigger. Some of the
collection of sawmill equipment will also
be fired up. Other attractions include
the Historic Transport Museum, the

his year marks the 39th anniversary
of the annual Lake Ferry Excursion,
organized by the Sunbeam Car
Club of New Zealand (Wellington) on its
traditional date, the second Saturday in
December, which this year is 14 December.
All car clubs, and individuals, are welcome.
Meet at the Fell Museum at Featherston
at 11am for an 11.30 departure. The
drivers’ briefing will be at the big oak tree
outside the Fell Museum at 11.15am. Meet
again at Lake Ferry, for a natter over lunch,
or repair to the Lake Ferry Hotel for a
pub meal.
Past events have attracted English, US,
Italian, and French cars; the Constructors
Car Club; and Corvette, Capri, Mustang,
and Early American car clubs, to name a few.

Jowett Bradford museum (the Ray Win
Collection), the Nelson Vintage Engine &
Machinery Club, the Rural Life Museum,
and the Army Group Centre — fun for all
the family. Barbecue food and tea, coffee,
and cold drinks will be available. The
Rover Car Club is expecting to have more
than 300 vehicles on display. A perfect day
out for dads. Entry is $5 for a car and its
occupants. Motorcycles are $2.
