01 This time the tech on our
’ 46 Chevy pickup focuses on
the cab and what it will take to
update the old vacuum single-
wiper system to a modern
electric unit supplied by Chevs
of the 4 0’s.When the planets align and you’re lucky enough to get a lead on a potential
barn find truck, it’s like a rush of pure adrenalin. The level of excitement from unearthing
something that has sat dormant for years brings a new level of archeology to the truck world.
Your discovery might be a rock-solid, low-mile gem, a rusted old hulk banished from a farm,
or something in between. In any of the above cases it takes an investment of time and finance
to bring it back to life on the street. Fortunately for us, our barn find ’46 Chevy, although
having seen better days, was extremely solid.
This made it a perfect candidate to bring back
to life in our budget-conscious build.
Over the past few installments we’ve
updated the frame, suspension, braking
system, and, most recently, the crank-out
windshield while working with Scott Roth,
co-owner of Rothspeed, in Milton, Vermont.
