Classic Trucks – November 2019

(Jacob Rumans) #1

most complete supplier of ’37-’54

Chevrolet car and truck parts to see

what they had to offer. There were

a number of choices, including

rebuild services for your original

vacuum unit to a number of electric

conversion options, which included

single or dual wiper systems for

either 6- or 12V applications. For

our build we chose the New Port

Engineering 12V system available for

’39-’46 Chevy trucks, featuring their

exclusive “Clean Wipe” Wiper Drive.

The kit packs plenty of cutting-

edge technology with its design

and performance, proving it’s easy

to upgrade the antiquated vacuum

06 While
wearing
safety
glasses, Roth
removed
the header
panel using
a flathead
screwdriver.

07 With the
truck having
sat dormant
in a barn for
decades it’s
no wonder
that the mice
nested in the
header panel
since there
was plenty of
access.

08 In order to remove the nest Roth
used a shop vacuum to carefully clear
everything for the next step.

09 You can see in this close-up the
original placement of the stock vacuum
system. It easily looks pretty outdated
compared to present-day technology.
