Classic Trucks – November 2019

(Jacob Rumans) #1

14 The drill
jig plate was
reinstalled using
the supplied
hardware,
positioning
the alignment
bushings to the
existing holes.
Using a^1 ⁄ 8 -inch
transfer punch,
Roth set the mark
for the additional
pinholes.

15 The drill
jig was again
removed to
allow two

(^1) ⁄ 8 -inch holes
to be drilled
into both
sides of the
cab above
the existing
wiper
transmission
holes.
16 The drill jig plate was then reinstalled
for the final time, first secured on the
passenger side to allow the driver
side to align using an^1 ⁄ 8 -inch transfer
punch. Roth then scribed a 5 ⁄ 8 -inch hole
using the drill jig plate as a guide. The
sequence was then reversed to handle
the other side.
17 With the drill jig plate removed, a
(^5) ⁄ 8 -inch-diameter hole was then added
to each side to enlarge the 5 ⁄ 16 -inch pilot
holes.
18 To c omplete the mounting holes
the material between the 1 ⁄ 8 -inch hole
and 5 ⁄ 8 -inch hole was carefully removed
using a rotary tool with a small cutoff
wheel.
