in black powdercoat and paint. As
we repair this cab’s cowl, sparks will
fly. There will be welding. There will
be grinding. So, we’ll need to take
precautions for sure. Much later on,
once we’re finally satisfied with our
gaps, the cab and related sheetmetal
will all come back off for finish
bodywork and paint. Put it together,
take it apart, put it together—you
know, the usual procedure.

12 As long as we’re
taking protective
measures, let’s
think about our
friends who’ll be
helping us heft the
cab on soon. Sharp-
edged pipes might
not be noticed
once our hands are
full of cab. Have
we thought of
everything?

11 The idea
here is to
protect this
finished chassis
while the cab
and frontend
sheetmetal
receive needed
attention.
There will
be welding
blankets used
here ’n’ there
as well.

13 We’ve all done this before, so we
pretty much know the track. After a
brief drivers’ meeting, latex gloves meet
bare steel as the cab reassumes its
position—for now.

14 Now we’re having trouble with
rubber cab mounts. Since Brothers
mounts are “exactly like the original”
we’ll order a second set just to see if we
can figure out what’s wrong.
