fire it up and see how we did. The
electric fuel pump filled the float
bowls and with a couple of squirts
of the accelerator we hit the key
and she roared to life. We held the
rpm up over 1,500 for the first 15
minutes or so; many folks will say
that this isn’t really necessary for
roller cams, but some of the cam
experts are now agreeing that it
can help with long-term life—and
it certainly doesn’t hurt, as we got
everything up to temp and checked
for leaks or funny noises. None
were found so we shut it off and
gave everything a second look. Oil
level was good and everything was
tight and leak-free so it was time
for a drive.

04 After
placing
the new
head
gasket on
the block
we set the
first head
in place.

05 The
included ARP
heads bolts
were treated
to a bit of
Teflon sealant
since they go
into the water
jackets along
with some ARP
assembly lube
under the head
and specialty
washer.

06 The heads were then torqued to 7 5
lb-ft in three equal steps following the
factory Ford tightening sequence.
