to keep the temperature at an efficient
level and so far it has not varied from
that temp.
We fired it up and made a partial
pass just to check everything over.
GTR’s Richard Topete agreed that
everything looked and sounded good,
so it was time to put the pedal to the
metal and spin the dyno drum. The
Edelbrock upgrades responded with a
much stronger 229 hp at 5,300 rpm
(holding that number right to our
conservative 5,600-rpm Rev Limit)
and 248 torque at 4,300. That’s 35
percent more horsepower and 25
percent more torque. Not bad for a
weekend spent in the garage. That
works out to just a bit under 300 hp
and close to 320 lb-ft of torque at the
flywheel. It also pulls much stronger
in that all-important midrange where
we really drive on the street yet
extended the rpm range by another
1,000. Even on the dyno the temp
never went above 195 degrees and
we avoided any more catastrophes.
Driving home from the dyno shop I
felt really good that this little Effie
was running and driving the way I
had hoped it would back when we
first picked it up. But we do have one
more weekend trick up our sleeve.

lash set to 0 lash plus half a turn.

so on went the new manifold and valve covers.11 Back on the dyno at GTR High Performance, Richard To pete spun up the rear tires and
the dyno tells the tale. It made more torque at the beginning of the pull than it made total
before the upgrades and it surpassed the old horsepower max by 3 , 4 00 rpm!
