New York City Transit has announced it will add 15 New
Flyer Xcelsior CHARGE low-floor, sixty-foot electric
heavy-duty transit buses to its transportation fleet. Each
bus will include New Flyer’s CONNECT 360 business
analytics and reporting tool, which is designed to opti-
mize performance and operations.
The order supports NYCT’s efforts to develop a cleaner
public transportation footprint, and follows previous-
ly-announced plans to fully electrify its entire fleet by
2040.
As part of the contract, New Flyer will also provide in-
stallation, testing and commissioning of 16 Siemens 150
kW interoperable chargers through its recently-formed
Infrastructure Solutions service.
Chris Stoddart, President of New Flyer, said, “Across
NFI Group, we’ve delivered more than 2,500 buses to
NYCT, with over 1,100 MCI coaches and 1,400 New
Flyer transit buses connecting New York City and its
surrounding boroughs and communities.”

XL, a Boston-based manufacturer of electric fleet vehi-
cles, unveiled a plug-in hybrid Ford Super Duty F-250
pickup truck at the NTEA Work Truck Show in India-
napolis. This hybrid F-250 joins XL’s XLP Ford F-150,
which the company began shipping in 2018.
XL reports that, on initial assessment, the XLP F-250
truck provides up to a 50% improvement in fuel econo-
my over conventional factory F-250s and reduces GHG
emissions by 33% during normal operation. XL notes
these numbers are consistent with what the PHEV F-150
has achieved at EPA-certified testing facilities.
The XLP F-250 features a 15 kWh lithium-ion battery
pack. The entire hybrid powertrain system weighs 750
pounds, and is mounted onto existing factory compo-
nents. XL notes that the XLP F-250 has no effect on Ford
factory warranties, and requires no special maintenance
procedures or charging infrastructure enhancements.
XL says the truck is scheduled to begin shipping to
customers before the end of 2019.
XL CEO Tod Hynes said, “The fleet industry is looking
for ways to electrify their trucks now, without adding
significant infrastructure costs or range concerns for
their drivers.”
