Report Republic of Korea Navy Part 2
Security Cooperation Agency
(DSCA) release on the possible
Foreign Military Sale (FMS) for
an estimated cost of US$2.1bn.
Eventually, many more P-8As
are likely to be acquired, based
on a 2013 requirement for 20
aircraft when DAPA was mulling
the purchase of ex-US Navy
S-3B Viking ASW aircraft.
While the P-3 Orions will be
gradually replaced by the P-8A,
the Poseidons are expected to
remain operational for 30 years,
according to the DSCA release.V-22 and F-35 on the
cards?
The ROKN’s soon-to-enter-
service landing platform
helicopter (LPH) ship Marado
has been designed to operate
V-22 Osprey tiltrotors. This
suggests that the ROKMC
or ROKN is considering the
acquisition of these aircraft in the
near future. Graphics released
by DAPA also show UH-60P
helicopters with folding rotor
blades aboard the Marado.
