Al l four crew ejected safely when
these aircraft collided in mid-air
and crashed. Although the defence
ministry announced the accident,
no further details were given, and
the location was not reported.

This UAV crashed at around
1530hrs in the Waianae
Mountains, Hawaii, near Wheeler
Army Airfield, Schofield Barracks.
The accident caused a brush
fire which was extinguished
by local fire services.

This fighter developed a
mechanical problem during a
routine training mission, forcing
it to return to Ching Chuan Kang
Air Base, Taichung, where a safe
emergency landing was made
at around 1700hrs. The pilot
was uninjured, but it’s unclear
whether there was any serious
damage to the aircraft which
blocked the runway, causing
disruption to eight commercial
flights from the adjacent Taichung
International Airport. Reports that
the fighter made a belly landing
were denied by the air force and
although the exact nature of the
problem was not revealed, an
undercarriage fault is a possibility.

Following engine failure during
a training sortie from Chiang
Mai Air Base, this aircraft was
destroyed when it crashed at
1615hrs local time near Wat Pa
Poh in Tha Wang Tan, Saraphi
district, in the northern Chiang
Mai province. The instructor pilot,
Sqn Ldr Naruepol Lueadkusol,

was found dead at the crash site
but the student pilot, Wg Cdr
Thanawat Khunkhunthod, ejected
and survived with minor injuries.

During a sortie from Tinker Air
Force Base, Oklahoma, the aircraft
declared an emergency due to a
fire in the No 2 engine. It diverted
to Lincoln Airport, Nebraska for
a safe emergency landing at
around 1730hrs. Local firefighters
extinguished the fire within 15
minutes, although the extent of
the damage was not immediately
clear. The six crew evacuated the
Sentry via an emergency escape
slide and were all uninjured. The
aircraft was towed off the runway
to await investigation and repairs.

This helicopter crashed at around
1950hrs local time during a
supply flight to a remote region
near La Cominera, in the Cauca
department, after taking off from
Cali at 1815hrs and making a
technical stop at Miranda. All
five on board (Mayor Luis Torrez
Pabón and Capitán Edson Niño,
plus Sargentos Dumar Bareño
Suárez, Jair Mina Amarat and
Edison Mora) suffered serious
injuries. The cause of the accident
was not immediately clear,
although weather conditions
were poor at the time.

After a suspected burst tyre on
landing at Aviano Air Base, Italy,
the aircraft veered off the side
of the runway into soft ground
and came to rest slightly nose
down. The pilot was uninjured,
but it was not immediately
clear whether there was any
serious damage to the aircraft.

This UAV crashed at
approximately 1430hrs local time
after loss of data link during a
training mission while being flown
from the National Guard training
base at Camp Douglas, Volk
Field, Wisconsin. After contact
was lost, it descended into trees
and was heavily damaged. The
Shadow was being operated
by a platoon from Company D,
173rd Engineering Battalion, as
part of the 32nd ‘Red Arrow’
Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

At around 1000hrs local time, the
Wasp-class amphibious assault
ship USS Boxer (LHD 4) downed
this UAV after it approached
to within 3,000ft (914m) of
the ship while it was sailing in
international waters in the Strait of
Hormuz. The US reported it took
