1 Soak the Oasis ball by
dropping it into a deep bucket
of water. Be patient and do not
press down – it will soak fully
and properly in seconds!
2 If you want ribbon to
hang under the pomander,
make a loop of ribbon with a
knot two-thirds of the way
down (A) and use a U-shaped
piece of wire (B) to thread it
through the centre of the ball,

YOU WILL NEED: A 10CM OASIS
FOAM BALL, RIBBON AND WIRE
FLOWERS: NIGELLA, LAVENDER,
HYDRANGEAS, SCABIOUS,
CORNFLOWERS AND VERBENA

Hanging

pomander

5 Once the top of the ball is
finished, carefully tip it over
on to a cushion or bubble wrap
and ll in the spaces beneath.
As with the chairback, make
sure the stems don’t go straight
through the foam to the other
side of the ball, and try not to
make any mistakes inserting
the owers, as it is hard to get
any owers to stay in place
once there are holes.
6 If using particularly
soft-stemmed flowers, or if
the pomander will be carried,
it’s best to wire the stems (as
for buttonholes, but with a
wire that will hold its form in
the foam), as this will ensure
none of the owers are
dislodged as the foam starts to
dry out or is moved around. ¤

pulling it until you reach the
knot. If you want pale ribbon,
this method won’t work as it
will get dirty, so make it by
criss-crossing the ribbon over
the ball like a parcel and attach
the handle and tails once the
ball has been owered.
3 Rest the ball on a jar that
will leave most of it free to
ower. Pop tissue in the jar to
soak up the water (C) as it is
made and prevent the ribbon
tails from becoming soaked.
4 Cut the flowers so they
have a stem length of around
6cm. Insert the stems into the
foam in a line running across
the ball (giving the appearance
of a Mohican), so you can
follow the height and ensure
the nished shape is even.

‘A pretty and playful

alternative to a bouquet, these

pomanders will work at

any venue and on any scale.’
