wondertheowners– a coupleand their
teenageson– fellinlovewiththishome.
Overtime,however,theyidentifieditsshortcomings:
thehousewasdarkinside;itfeltdisconnectedfrom
thegarden;andit didn’toffersufficientseparationfor
theirvariousneeds,rangingfromcookingand
entertaining to working from home and studying.
Sotheyapproachedarchitectandinteriordesigner
RicciBlochtodiscusstheiroptions.Together,Ricci
andherclientssettledona plantoretaintheexisting
housebutimprovethewayit functionedforthefamily.
“Theylovedthefrontpartofthehouse,anddidn’t
wanttolosethatcottagefeel,soweruledoutextending
upwards,”Riccisays.“Theydidn’treallyneedany
additionalspaceandtheyintendto‘agein place’, so it
madesensetokeepit allononelevel.”
