NFL: Patriots safety Chung enters not guilty plea in coke rap

New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung has waived a court appear-
ance in Laconia, N.H., on a cocaine possession charge and a lawyer entered
a not guilty plea on his behalf.
A Belknap County grand jury indicted the 32-year-old Chung on Aug. 8.
The documents filed Monday mean that a scheduled arraignment won’t
take place. Chung has not played in any preseason games and coach Bill
Belichick wouldn’t answer a question about his status last week.
Chung is now scheduled for a Nov. 8 court appearance.

MLB: Phillies fight way past Pirates in 11 innings

Sean Rodriguez lined a home run leading off the bottom of the 11th in-
ning to give the Phillies a 6-5 victory over the Pirates in Philadelphia.
Josh Bell hit a solo homer off Philadelphia closer Hector Neris to tie it
at 5 in the ninth after Corey Dickerson hit a two-run shot against his for-
mer team in the eighth to give the Phillies a one-run lead.
Ryan McMahon hit a two-run homer in the ninth to lift the Rockies to a
3-1 win over the Braves in Denver. McMahon hit a 1-1 fastball from Jerry Blevins
just over the scoreboard in right field for the second game-ending homer of his
career. Nolan Arenado started the inning with a walk off Anthony Swarzak.
ETC.: Team USA trounces Canada in World Cup exhibition

After losing for the first time in nearly 13 years two days earlier, the
United States rebounded to outclass Canada 84-68 in a pre-World Cup ex-
hibition basketball game Monday in Sydney. Jaylen Brown had 19 points to
lead the Americans, who out-rebounded Canada 55-37.
Scott Lynch, a former Penn State team doctor, is suing the school,
football coach James Franklin and athletic director Sandy Barbour,
claiming he was ousted in March after complaining to school officials
about being pressured to clear players to return from injuries. Lynch is
seeking $50,000 in damages.

The Rangers announced their roster
for the 2019 Traverse City tournament,
and it will feature a first look at five of
the club’s top prospects.
The roster is high-
lighted by Kaapo
Kakko, the second-
overall pick in this
year’s NHL draft,
2018 first-round pick
Vitali Kravtsov,
Adam Fox, Yegor
Rykov and goalten-
der Igor Shesterkin.
The prospect tourna-
ment begins Sept. 6
in Traverse City,
Mich.
There are several current Rangers
who previously participated in the tour-
nament, including Jesper Fast, Brady
Skjei, Pavel Buchnevich, Boo Nieves,
Lias Andersson, Alexandar Georgiev,
Filip Chytil and Brett Howden. All of
those players ended up playing NHL
games the same season in which they
played in Traverse City.
Kakko and company will also be
joined by fellow 2019 draftees Matthew
Robertson, Karl Henriksson and Hunter
Skinner.
Fox, a lifelong Rangers fan from Long
Island, was acquired from Carolina this
offseason. Rykov was acquired from the
Devils in the Michael Grabner trade be-
fore the 2018 deadline. Shesterkin, a can-
didate to be Henrik Lundqvist’s heir ap-
parent, was a fourth-round pick in 2014.
