be painted with Tamiya TS-17 Gloss
Aluminium. All this was completed
by attaching the suspension uprights,
arms (in Tamiya TS-29 Semi-Gloss
Black) plus the air ducts for the brakes
and finally completing the front part
with the wheel hubs, steering box, disc
brakes, small roll-bar and instrumen-
tation with various cables and hoses.

THE ENGINE
The engine is in a single block with
the gearbox and should be painted,
after careful masking, in Tamiya TS-29
Semi-Gloss Black. The rocker covers
should be painted in the classic Gordini
Blue (Mr Color Bright Blue H15). After
that, the engine and gearbox unit was

coupled to the chassis along with the
rear suspension arms, wheel hubs and
brakes attached to it.
Finally, the chassis was completed
with all its accessories such as oil tank,
oil filter, ignition distributor, electrical
cables, water hoses, control units,
exhausts and turbos. The latter are
very specific characteristics of this car
and the eye will fall easily in this area,
so they must be treated in a particular
way. To simulate the heat-stained
effect of the exhaust pipes, over the
plated finish of the parts supplied in
the kit, I applied translucent glazes
of Kcolor paints using Candy Black
and Avio Burnt Blue shades. Once
fitted to the engine, I mounted the

turbos by mating them with the engine
radiators and intercooler. Finally,
with the Tamiya Panel Line Accent
Color (Black) and some very diluted
X19 Smoke, the moulded-in detail was
accentuated.

BODYWORK
The RE23's body is really beautiful.
The individual parts are finely made
and do not require particular attention,
other than an immaculate paint finish.
After a careful examination of the
parts, all were washed with detergent
soap to remove any grease. I applied an
undercoat with Tamiya White Primer
on all parts. Then, the colour coats were
applied; Zero Paints Yellow ZP-1144
