Superdetailing the Honda 250cc engine

ENGINE PLUMBING
I replaced many of the
plastic moulded bolts with
metal turned ones from
'Tuner Model Manufactory'.
The Tamiya kit tubing was
replaced with aftermarket
tubes and wires, all measured
and fitted accordingly. I
added wiring and connection
points for what I believe is a
sensor in the engine block, as
well as a few other additions
of bolts and connectors and
wires based on my reference
photos. The ‘gold’ coloured
parts of the engine were
actually a mix of Alclad 2
Pale Gold and Pale Burnt
Metal, which I mixed at a
50:50 ratio.
The rest of the engine
block was painted with
aluminium and a few shinier
parts were sprayed with
polished aluminium. I used

the Tamiya 'Detail-Up Parts
Series' Clutch and Front Fork
Set for the clutch. The clutch
itself was very straight-
forward to build without any
real problems and I added
some metal turned bolts on
the top of the clutch plate and
the for the attachment points
of the clutch basket.
For the carburettor I used
Bare Metal Foil cut into
strips to emulate the metal
clips around the rubber hoses
between each carb. Based
on many of the reference
photos I saw that the intake
trumpets were a whitish/
yellowish colour and most
likely made of some kind
of resin, so rather than use
the metal turned trumpets
supplied by Tamiya, I used
the standard plastic kit
parts and painted them the
corresponding colour.

The clutch was straightforward
to build; the author added
some turned-metal bolts on
the top of the clutch plate

Many reference show the intake
trumpets in a yellowish/white colour
and most likely made of some kind of
resin. The author used the kit parts
and painted them an off-white colour

moulded bolts were

turned items from 'Tuner

The exhausts were enhanced with the Hobby Design exhaust gaskets which look much better than the
standard parts
