FULL-BUILD: WORLD WAR TWO AXIS AVIATION
WINGSY KITS 1:48 MITSUBISHI A5M4 CLAUDE ● KIT NO.D5-02

For the black engine
cover, the 'wash required
a little more work. Firstly,
I took Neutral Wash from
Mig Productions, then in
some places, I applied a
light blend of my own,
made from oil paints for a
better effect. As a result, the
blackness was significantly
softened and the recesses in
the 'sheet metal' and rivets
became more visible.

STAINING AND DUST
In the next stage of
weathering, I focused
on showing
the subtle
effects of dirt
accumulation
along the sides
of the fuselage and
wing-roots. For this purpose,
I used a light brown paint
which I applied locally to the
model using an airbrush.
I also gently shaded the
white band around the
hinomaru on the fuselage
and the black undercarriage.
After changing the colour of
the paint to dark brown, I
applied an some simulated
dust on the lower surfaces.
That is where my
adventure with the first
Claude from Wingsy Kits
ends. Because I was so
impressed by the quality of
the model, I could not resist
the temptation and I bought

another kit, this time in the
A5M2b version. I recommend
this kit to everyone; in
my opinion, every fan of
Japanese fighters should
have at least one! ●

Tamiya’s new-tool 1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ia is as close to perfect that a model kit gets, but
there’s always room to add aftermarket items because modellers love them! Eduard have created an
entirely new cockpit in resin and PE for the model that completely replaces the kit parts, comprising
sidewalls, seat, instrument panel and more. The detail incorporated in the sidewall parts is astonishing
and also carries the inner faces of the airframe riveting which is quite apparent on the real thing.
