Replace the springs with
what came out of it, if it was
running well the previous year, no need
to reinvent the wheel. Reassemble the
clutches and reinstall. Inspect the belt
for excessive wear, flat spots, and any
other signs of damage and replace if nec-
essary. Set the belt deflection at this
time to the manufacturer’s recommenda-
tion.
While the panels and hood are off,
and the exhaust system is out, I service
the chain case. Most sleds are equipped
with a drain plug on the chain case, but
at the beginning of the year, I like to
remove the cover and inspect the inter-
nals of the chain case. Visually inspect
the chain for broken links, which are
very easy to spot. Check the chain ten-
sioner for excessive wear and roll the
