track over and check the gears for dam-
age or wear as well ( 6 ). If everything
looks good, this is a good time to adjust
chain tension, you can get a good look
at what the correct tension feels
like with the cover off.
Reassemble the chain case,
and fill with the correct
amount of chain case
oil immediately,
so you don’t
forgetdown the road. (Ask me how I know!)
With the rear of the sled in the air
(so you can roll the track) inspect all the
rear suspension components ( 7 ). Check
for loose bolts by putting a
wrench to them. Visually
check for any bent or bro-
ken parts, or oil leaking
from the shocks. I inspect
every wheel in the skid,
making sure they are
straight and the bearing is
still in there. Check the lim-
iter strap (8&9) for frayingand replace if it shows signs of wear; I
see a lot of broken limiter straps on
mountain sleds with a lot of miles. If
everything looks straight, grease every-
thing with a fitting until
new grease is forced out of
the shafts.■ (^) Front suspension work
Check the wear bars on the
skis, the A-arm bushings
( 10 ) and ball joints. I also
remove the skis and lube the
ski bushings ( 11 ) with
