TELEVISION
CRITICS’ CHOICE
IN THE latest espiode
of the autumnal sitcom,
Roger’s ex-wife, Wendy
(Rosie Cavaliero),
self-publishes her
children’s book and,
to Phil and Edith’s
surprise, the characters
featured in The
Lemming Family bear
striking similarities to
them and the rest of their clan.
Thinly veiled jibes at Roger
(Jason Watkins) include
mention of his efforts to
defraud the social services,
which is timed to coincide
with another visit to assess
his suitability to be a carer to
mum Edith (Alison Steadman,
pictured). But Edith, Phil
and Joan have other plans
for ‘professional liar’ Roger
— and have to hope and
pray that the authorities
don’t read Wendy’s book.

QUITE THE CATCH
Mortimer &
Whitehouse: Gone
Fishing, 8pm, BBC2
THE lads (pictured)
head to Cornwall in
search of perch tonight.
Cue gentle teasing and
bantering wit aplenty

sees the double-decker
accommodation that
Bob has booked. The
best moment? Well,
that comes when the pair head offshore
in a tiny boat for a spot of sea fishing...
HORTICULTURAL ADVICE
Gardeners’ World, 8.30pm, BBC2
AHEAD of the bank holiday, Monty Don
has plenty to keep gardeners busy, from
late-summer planting to pruning soft
fruit. In Devon, Nick Bailey meets a
retired teacher who has a passion for
the sempervivum, a succulent also
known as the houseleek, and he concludes
his look at the ever popular clematis.
LIFE’S A STAGE
Fosse/Verdon, 9pm, BBC2
IT’S 1973, and Bob (Sam
Rockwell) has checked out of
the clinic and into a cottage
with girlfriend Ann Reinking
(Margaret Qualley, pictured
with Rockwell) — fellow guests
include Gwen and
boyfriend Ron. Bob is
focused on his new project,
a film about Lenny Bruce
with Dustin Hoffman, while
Gwen still has her heart set
on Chicago, a project she
has nursed for a decade.
U.S. POLICE DRAMA
Lethal Weapon, 9pm, ITV
MURTAUGH and Cole (Damon Wayans
and Seann William Scott) investigate the
robbery of a truck filled with fine art. On the
home front, Murtaugh’s daughter blackmails
