BURY may get an extra 24 or 48
hours to secure their existence,
although controversial owner
Steve Dale wants £2.5million to
sell the crisis club — a figure
which is understood to include
around £500,000 for himself.
EFL interim chair Debbie Jevans
has disclosed that the league
may extend tonight’s midnight
deadline for the beleaguered
134-year-old outfit to either show
they have the funds needed to
satisfy creditors and see out the
season or show that they are
close to being taken over.
Should they fail to do so, they
will be booted out of the
competition and, in all likelihood,
cease to exist.
Mayor of Greater Manchester
Andy Burnham wrote to Jevans
asking her to intervene and try
to prevent the demise of the
League One club should no
buyer be found by tonight.
There are a number of interested
parties, with former Port Vale
owner Norman Smurthwaite
among those keen. However,
Dale — who paid £1 for the
League One club in December —
is thought to want half a million
for his own efforts, even though
insiders at the club claim he has
failed to invest cash since taking
charge. Bury North MP James
Frith told BBC 5 Live that
Sports Minister Nigel Adams
would be requesting the
extension from the EFL and that
Adams’ backing would be a
significant boost to its chances
of being granted.
‘There’s got to be tangible
reasons for a delay,’ said Jevans.
‘You want to say yes because we
want this football club to survive.’

ARCO SILVA
has urged
Richarlison and
Yerry Mina to
increase their

English lessons and
admitted it has taken

them longer than expected

to grasp the language of

the dressing room.
When Silva was appointed
Everton’s head coach, the
Portuguese made it
clear that he wanted
English to be the main
way of conversing in
order to guard against
the possibility of cliques
forming. Silva was so
committed he took on
more classes himself.
The process for Brazil forward
Richarlison and Colombia
defender Mina has been slower
and Silva — whose side will go
top of the table for the first time
since 2007 if they beat Aston
Villa tonight — has indicated
that their inability to speak
fluently is creating a barrier.
Silva says Italy striker Moise
Kean has arrived at Goodison
Park with a better command of
English than Richarlison and
Mina and he wants them to
address the matter.
When asked about Richarli-
son’s progress, Silva said: ‘No, it
is not as good as I’d like. But he’s
trying every day. Mina also. This
is something we demand from
them because this is one of the
keys for them to adapt faster
and to understand everything.’

Richarlison only returned to
training at the beginning of
August, having helped Brazil win
the Copa America in July. He
was substituted in last Satur-
day’s 1-0 win over Watford — but
Silva has no concerns.
‘This was the third pre-
season that he has done
with me. In the other
two he had a full pre-
season and started the
season really strong,’
said Silva, who will again
be without Fabian Delph.
Aston Villa midfielder Jack
Grealish will have the opportu-
nity to gatecrash Gareth South-
gate’s plans tonight with Eng-
land manager and his No 2 Steve
Holland due at Villa Park.
The 23-year-old is back in the
Premier League and can impress
Southgate as he finalises his
squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers
against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
ASTON VILLA (4-2-3-1, probable): Heaton;
Elmohamady, Engels, Mings, Taylor; Luiz,
McGinn; Trezeguet, Grealish, El Ghazi; Wesley.
EVERTON (4-2-3-1, probable): Pickford; Coleman,
Keane, Mina, Digne; Schneiderlin, Gomes;
Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Bernard; Calvert-Lewin.

MOUTINHO PULLS STRINGS

AS WOLVES TAKE CONTROL

MIDFIELD maestro Joao
Moutinho showed why he is the
first name on the Wolves team
sheet as they took a major step
towards qualifying for the
Europa League group stage.
Moutinho started his seventh
game in 28 days while younger
legs were rested and manager
Nuno Espirito Santo was fully
rewarded for sticking with the
32-year-old playmaker.
The Portuguese international
was key to the opening goal
after 43 minutes of the play-off
first leg. He battled to win a
free-kick on the edge of the
penalty area and then whipped
in the perfect delivery that saw
Bremer inadvertently flick into
his own net under pressure from
Romain Saiss.
Adama Traore cut back for Diogo
Jota to fire home a second goal
after 59 minutes.
Lorenzo De Silvestri headed
Torino back into the game after

61 minutes but Wolves then
restored their two-goal lead 11
minutes later when Raul Jimenez
dribbled through to score his
fifth European goal of the
campaign.
Torino’s star striker Andrea
Belotti salvaged some hope for
his side ahead of Thursday’s
second leg at Molineux with a
last-minute penalty after he’d
been fouled by Ruben Vinagre.
‘The tie is far from being over,’
warned Nuno, in charge of
Wolves’ first European campaign
since 1980. ‘We played good. We
were organised, we stayed in
shape and produced some goals.
But there is still one game to go.’
