One fashion titan who understood

the importance of staying true to your-

self was Oscar de la Renta. His designs

transformed the most stylish, iconic

women into even more stunning versions

of themselves. He will be missed not

only for his immeasurable contributions

to the fashion and bridal industries but

also for his great philanthropic efforts,

from the orphanage and school that

he built in his native Dominican Repub-

lic to his work with New Yorkers for

Children and Children’s Defense Fund.

So while I started this letter with my best

piece of planning advice, I’ll end with

perhaps his best piece of life advice, which

you should hold on to before, during,

and after your engagement: “Love. Be

curious. Always tr y to do your best.”
