CHICAGO’S FINEST A few days after releasing his new album, The
Big Day, Chance the Rapper shared a prayer with fellow Windy City
rapper Calboy. Calboy then joined Chance onstage at Lollapalooza
for a powerful rendition of “No Problem,” a track from the hip-hop
superstar’s 2016 album, Coloring Book. “That felt legendary, too,
because I grew up listening to Chance since [his first mixtape] 10
Day,” Calboy said of the performance. “It’s a different type of feeling
when you’re onstage with him, after watching him onstage.”

AMAZING MAGGIE Self-proclaimed “witchy feminist rock star”
Maggie Rogers had a busy Saturday at this year’s Newport Folk
Festival, playing solo on the main stage, then returning later that
night to join Brandi Carlile and Sheryl Crow for a version of Crow’s
classic ballad “Strong Enough.” “Thank you Sheryl Crow for this
powerful anthem,” Rogers tweeted after the show.

FLIP IT UP Australian indie-pop singer-songwriter G Flip
turned in one of Lollapalooza’s most talked-about sets by a
new artist, playing songs off her debut LP, About Us, which
intimately chronicles the ups and downs of a relationship.
“Luckily, she didn’t mind,” G Flip (a.k.a. Georgia Flipo) said of
the woman who inspired the songs on About Us, “otherwise,
out of respect to her, this music would never have seen the
light of day.”

 SHAQ JEEZEL
Shaquille O’Neal appeared at
Lollapalooza in his DJ Diesel
guise, turning in an amped-up
DJ set that featured smoke
cannons, Queen samples,
video screens showing
video-game footage, huge
plumes of pyro, and — when
he played Kanye West’s “Jesus
Walks” — a visit from an actor
dressed as the Messiah. At
one point, Shaq even
ventured into the mosh pit.
“When I retired in 2011, I
needed another adrenaline
booster,” he said. “No matter
what you got going on in your
life — stress, problems,
whatever — there’s two things
that’ll stop everything you’re
thinking about negatively:
That’s sports and music.”

HELLO, DOLLY! Dolly Parton
dueted with Brandi Carlile
during a Newport Folk
Festival set by an all-female
collaborative that featured the
Highwomen. “Dolly, I will
always love you,” Carlile said.
