His huge medal haul has

traditionally given to
finishers in Idaho, US.
Jack’s next race is the
Buenos Aires marathon. He
said: “I’ll carry on running so
long as I enjoy it. I’ve made
so many friends.”

Jack runs 500th &
makes it a 44 miler
ROBUST Jack Brooks
clocked up his 500th
marathon by taking part in an
ultra race of 44 miles.
The 67-year-old reached
the landmark despite only
taking up running at 40.
And 100 people cheered
him yesterday as he crossed
the finish line in 10hr 23min.
Jack, who has run 26
marathons this year, said:
“It was quite touching. I’ve
celebrated wildly in the
past – but
after this one I’ll probably
catch up on some sleep.”
The retired chartered
surveyor’s triumph came in
his home city of St Albans,
Herts. But his running career
has seen him compete on
