EVERTON

WOLVES

Meanwhile, Spurs
striker Harry Kane
insisted he did not dive
to try to win a late
penalty when he felt a
shove in the back from
Sokratis.
Kane said: “The
defender made a tired
tackle. On halfway I
think I’d get that foul.
The referee probably
thinks I’m looking for
it. He’s come through
the back of me but it is
50/50. VAR would
probably have backed
the ref in this.”
Arsenal boss Unai
Emery warned Granit
Xhaka to learn from
his mistakes after he
gave away the first-half
penalty from which
Kane scored.
Since his Premier
League debut in August
2016, Xhaka has now
conceded five penalties

  • more than any other
    player. Emery said of
    him: “In 90 minutes I
    am very proud of his
    work. Some mistakes
we can have. I want to
    use them to progress,
    to improve, to learn.
    “There are a lot of
    positive things with
    Xhaka for me.
    “The penalty is a
    disappointing action.
    But he played very
    well.”
    Emery praised his
    side for their
    second-half fightback
    but added: “We played
    with our heart,
    sometimes more than
    our head. We need the
    balance.”

again. Richarlison got another
two against Wolves here as he
opened the scoring and decided
the outcome at Goodison Park.
Everton were twice pegged
back, with Romain Saiss and
then Raul Jimenez cancelling out
Richarlison and Alex Iwobi’s

goals. But an impressive late
header from the Brazilian
secured three points for Everton.
Manager Marco Silva said:
“Richarlison is the type of player
that needs good performances
and if possible to win confidence
in the way he likes to play.
“The way he celebrated the
last goal against Lincoln [in the
Carabao Cup midweek] shows he
needs these moments. Last
season, he did all the pre-season

ALL SQUARE

BRAGGING rights are shared. And
a feisty but error-strewn north
London derby reinforced the fact
there is little else for these two
clubs to fight for this season.
After the classy wins by Liverpool
and Manchester City on Saturday,
this was an old-fashioned, blood-
and-guts encounter with lusty
challenges, niggling tussles and
never-say-die determination.
Arsenal showed the fight that
went AWOL in the Europa League
final while Tottenham seem to have
lost the self-belief that took them to
the Champions League final.
If Christian Eriksen – one of
Spurs’ brightest performers
yesterday – packs his bags today,
the final day of the transfer window,

Wolves fire up Richarlison

FACING Wolves must be what
Richarlison needs to get his
season going.
It was last August on the
opening weekend when he
bagged a brace to get his
Everton career off to a flying
start. But this term he drew a
blank in the opening month of
the Premier League.
Yet the arrival of Nuno
Espirito Santo’s side inspired the
forward to find his scoring touch

players like Eriksen to
finally be over –
because it almost
floored his unsettled
team.
Pochettino said:
“Tomorrow I’m so
happy because
tomorrow is going to
finish the transfer
window. We start from
tomorrow being all on
the same page.
“I think we were
nearly on the floor and
now we are going to
improve. Now we have
clear minds. Christian
and different players,
tomorrow they are
going to be focused
100 per cent on
Tottenham and not
thinking of different
things.”
There has also been
uncertainty about the
futures of Danny Rose
and Serge Aurier, but
while he is optimistic
Eriksen is staying,
Pochettino would give
no guarantees.
He said: “We wait.
Still some hours. I
don’t want to say it’s
impossible but it’s
going to be difficult.
“Nothing is
impossible in football. I
am optimistic. I hope
in 24 hours everything
will be clearer for
everyone.
“But it showed our
decision to play
Christian was right.
He’s an important
player for the team
and gave a great
performance.”
